Tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate is a clear, viscous liquid that serves as an ingredient in vinyl stabilizers, grease additives, and flame-retardant formulations. Its primary application, however, is as a plasticizer for vinyl plastics and synthetic rubber compounds.

This compound is also utilized as a specialized flame-retardant plasticizer in vinyl products where low-temperature flexibility is a key requirement—for instance, in military tarpaulins. When blended with general-purpose plasticizers like phthalate esters, it can further enhance the low-temperature flexibility of the resulting mixtures.
